Attendance: Parents are required to send a note of explanation to the class teacher when their child is absent or is late arriving at school. It is not necessary to phone the school if your child is absent for a short time. Should you need to take your child during school hours please obtain a 'release slip' from the office before collecting your child from the classroom. The slip is handed to the class teacher when you collect your child. Children arriving late will be deemed to be partially absent in the roll. Regular late arrivals are followed up by the Home School Liaison Officer, as are regular absences.
Late Arrivals: Children who arrive at school after 9.00am should go to the front office to get a "Late Slip" to be given to their classroom teacher.
There is one particular change of importance to parents.
The new procedures state that ‘Principals can grant leave to students of compulsory school age totalling not more than 15 days per school year in addition to sick leave…absences for periods totalling in excess of 15 days should be treated as exemptions from school attendance’.
This is significant if families are planning to take their children away from school for an extended holiday. An exemption would have to be applied for, and this will then be forwarded to the Regional Director for approval. Exemption forma are available from the school office. Any enquiries about this process please contact the principal or the Department of Education and Training’s Home School Liaison Officer, who can be contacted at Miranda Regional Office on 95313934.
