2008 Canteen Menu Canteen Volunteer Form
Tharawal Primary School Canteen is an integral part of the school, supporting student’s education in health and nutrition. The canteen staff, principal, teachers, parents and students all work together to encourage the development of healthy eating habits within our school community.
Tharawal Primary School Canteen is run by the Canteen Sub-Committee who is responsible for ensuring that the canteen operates in an efficient, business-like manner and is fully accountable to the P&C Association. The policy of the school canteen is to provide a variety of balanced and nutritious foods and drinks at a reasonable cost. Although not a fundraising enterprise, all surplus accrued is paid into P&C funds to provide facilities and equipment for the benefit of the school and its students.

The Canteen Menu is continuously refreshed from time to time to meet the changing demands of the school community. Menus are available from the Canteen and the Admin Office or can be downloaded from the website.
The canteen operates with two paid Canteen Supervisors in charge on selected days. The success of our school canteen depends very much on the enthusiastic team of volunteer parents who operate on a roster for occasional duties to assist the Canteen Supervisors in preparing and serving lunches, and conducting counter sales during morning recess and lunch. Volunteers are always needed and very much appreciated. Your child/children will be happy to see you in their favourite place – school. You get to spoil them by spending a little extra money [all for a good cause] and you get to meet other parents and the staff and make good friends within our school community. Your offer of help will be much appreciated by the canteen and P&C.
If you have a few hours to spare simply print out and fill in the attached Volunteers Form and drop it into the Canteen or School office and one of our Canteen Supervisors will contact you.
Sincere thanks to our wonderful group of volunteer parents for their continued support and assistance of our canteen.

Herewith some frequently answered questions especially for all our new families.
- The canteen basic procedures are highlighted on the Canteen Menu.
- Remember that the canteen is CLOSED on a TUESDAY!
- Lunch orders must be handed into the canteen by 9:30am.
- Recess items do not need to be ordered. Students line up to be served their item selections.
- Kindergarten classes will be brought to the canteen by their teachers within the first few weeks of Term 1 when lunch ordering, lining up etc will be clearly explained. We endeavour to show them what a wonderful place the canteen is, and what wonderful food choices are on offer.
- Ordered lunches are delivered to the classroom via the Class Canteen Monitor which each teacher will appoint.
- If your child forgets his/her lunch or recess, loses his/her lunch money, or has a mishap with the lunch they brought from home, please encourage him/her to see their teacher. The teacher will bring the child to the canteen and we will provide a basic lunch (eg. sandwich & drink). A credit note will be sent home for the items provided. Please send monies owing to the canteen the next canteen day.
- If your child receives an incorrect lunch order, please encourage them to come and see the canteen supervisor on duty so that it can be rectified immediately.
- If your child has any food allergies and/or intolerances, please advise the canteen supervisors as soon as possible.
The canteen regularly supports a variety of charity organisations viz. Stewart House, The Cancer Council, Westmead Children’s Hospital, The biggest Morning Tea etc. by hosting charity drives to aid these organisations. These activities increase the awareness of these charities and their purpose within our school community which then allows them to get involved and contribute in a positive way.
Apart from the weekly Friday Fun Packs, one to two special Feature Days are held per Term to spark renewed interest in the Canteen and to make it fun for the students eg. Pancake Day, Harmony Day, Easter Hot-X Bun Day, Walkathon Hot Dog Day, Milkshake Day etc.
Please do not hesitate to pop in and see either Susanne or Denise to answer any further questions or address any concerns that you may have.
